A Historic Home, Reimagined

This historic Dupont Circle townhouse was fully renovated with an interior design approach that feels contemporary while remaining rooted in the character of the original home. Traditional wall paneling extends throughout the interiors, complemented by restored details including the original staircase, railing, and fireplace mantels. Against this historic backdrop, marble surfaces, a restrained neutral palette, and clean-lined fixtures introduce modern elements, creating a timeless interior where historic character and contemporary design come together naturally.

The kitchen brings traditional detailing and modern simplicity together through a restrained, off-white palette. Traditional trim on the cabinetry doors adds a classic element, while polished chrome fixtures introduce a cleaner, more contemporary note. At the center of the design, a richly veined stone becomes the defining feature, with warm brown and gold tones that connect naturally to the wood floors. The result is a kitchen that feels simple and elegant, creating a space that feels equally refined and inviting.

A Contemporary Interlude

In the bathrooms, the design takes a more contemporary turn. Marble-veined tile brings movement and texture to the otherwise restrained palette, while clean-lined fixtures and oversized mirrors give the spaces a crisp, modern character. The simplicity of the design creates a quiet contrast with the more traditional details found throughout the rest of the home.

Connecting the Levels

The original staircase sits at the heart of the home, rising through each level toward a skylight above. Wall paneling extends the full height of the stair, carefully aligned from floor to floor to create a continuous architectural element throughout the house. A series of sconces follows the ascent, complementing the natural light from above and reinforcing the stair as a central feature of the home.
