Home Addition in Great Falls

Set within a peaceful suburban landscape surrounded by mature trees, this home was reimagined to better support the needs of a growing family. A one-story rear addition and complete reconfiguration of the existing layout create more open and functional living spaces, while strengthening the home’s connection to the backyard and surrounding landscape. The redesigned plan improves flow throughout the home, creating generous spaces for gathering alongside dedicated areas for work, play, and everyday family life. Large windows, a screened porch, and new connections between the interior and outdoors bring natural light and views into the home, creating a comfortable setting designed to evolve with the family over time.

The one-story addition extends the first floor toward the backyard, creating space for a larger kitchen, family room, walk-in pantry, mudroom, and screened porch. More than simply adding square footage, the expansion reorganizes the way the main level functions, bringing everyday spaces together while creating a stronger connection to the outdoors. Large windows and direct access to the screened porch fill the new living areas with natural light and open the home to views of the surrounding landscape.

Opening to the Outdoors

Positioned along the side of the home and connected to the new great room, the screened porch brings together the home’s indoor and outdoor living spaces. With the great room on one side and an expansive deck and backyard on the other, it becomes an inviting place for dining, gathering, or simply enjoying the surrounding landscape. The result is an easy connection between the home and outdoors that can be enjoyed throughout the seasons.

Rethinking the Second Floor

The second floor was reconfigured from five bedrooms into four more generous bedrooms and three bathrooms, creating a more comfortable layout for the family. Repositioning the staircase and shortening the hallways recaptured valuable square footage, while combining two former bedrooms allowed for a larger primary suite and bathroom. By modifying the roof slope above the garage, additional space was created for a spacious walk-in closet, turning previously underused roof space into a functional extension of the primary suite.
