A Colorful Mid-Century Design

This Mid-Century Modern home was reimagined around the personality of the family who lives there. Building on the home’s existing character, the interior design introduces bold colors, rich contrast, and playful details that bring fresh energy to the interiors. Bright hues are balanced by deeper tones, while new finishes, built-ins, lighting, and custom details create layers of warmth and personality throughout. The result is a home that feels fresh and unexpected, while remaining true to its original character and distinctly personal to the family.

The kitchen was completely reconfigured to create a more open and functional layout, with a large island and additional storage. A portion of the adjacent screened porch was enclosed to create a dedicated coffee bar and storage area, extending the kitchen beyond its original footprint. Deep green countertops create a bold contrast against the light wood cabinetry, while bright yellow pendants above the island bring a playful nod to the home’s original era. In the adjoining coffee bar, the palette shifts to an immersive dark green, giving the smaller space its own moody identity while maintaining a strong visual connection to the kitchen.

A Moodier Moment

In contrast to the lighter palette of the formal living room and kitchen, the family room is wrapped in deep green, giving the space a more intimate character. A custom light-wood mantel brings warmth to the fireplace, while colorful furniture and art balance the darkness of the walls and bring balance and personality to the room. The result is a space that feels cozy and expressive, while remaining connected to the vibrant character of the rest of the home.

A Common Thread

While each room has its own distinct character, recurring colors and materials create a sense of continuity throughout the home. Deep greens and light woods reappear from room to room, creating a consistent thread within the interiors. In the formal living room, the fireplace mantel is finished in the same stone used for the kitchen countertops, creating a subtle connection between the two spaces. Pops of color in art, lighting, and furnishings add personality without overwhelming the design, allowing the home to feel layered and cohesive rather than overly coordinated.
