Located in DC’s Near Northeast neighborhood, just north of the H Street corridor and near Union Market, this renovation and third-floor addition transforms an existing townhouse into a two-unit residence. A one-bedroom apartment occupies the basement level, while the upper unit spans three floors with four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and a private rooftop terrace. The design maximizes space and natural light while carefully responding to the scale and traditional character of the surrounding neighborhood.

The main level features an open-plan layout, with new side windows bringing additional natural light into the interior. A generous kitchen with a large central island anchors the space, creating a natural connection between the living and dining areas. At the rear, a mudroom provides valuable storage and a practical transition between the detached garage and the home.
The third floor is designed as a private primary suite
with a bedroom opening onto a small front terrace and a generous walk-in closet connecting directly to the primary bathroom. A dedicated home office and laundry room complete the level, creating a comfortable and functional retreat separated from the more active spaces below.
