This project is located on an eclectic street consisting of both single-family and multifamily buildings in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest DC. The design responded to this unique site condition by reconfiguring an existing townhome into a triplex with a rear and third floor addition. This typology helped to create a natural transition from the surrounding townhome context to the adjacent three-story multi-family buildings.
The project obtained approvals from the Board of Zoning Adjustments (BZA) for the third unit and modifications to the existing architectural elements, which included reshaping the roofline and dormer windows. The basement and first floor levels each contain a two-bedroom and two-bathroom unit, while the top two floors combine to make up a four bedroom, three-bathroom unit.
