Townhouse Addition in Georgetown DC

Client: Developer

Service Provided: Architectural Design, Building Permit

Located near Georgetown, DC and within walking distance of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and the Dumbarton Oaks gardens and museum, this home addition was a complete transformation of an outdated modest-sized home. The renovation included a 7-foot rear extension on all levels and the addition of a full third floor. The result is an urban yet spacious home with five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms, thoughtfully designed to meet today’s standards while preserving its traditional architectural character.

The first floor features a large, open-concept space at the front for the living and dining areas, with a kitchen at the rear that opens to the backyard through a door and multiple windows, creating a strong indoor-outdoor connection and bringing in natural light. The second floor includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a laundry closet. The newly added third floor offers a generous primary suite complete with a large bathroom and walk-in closet. A front terrace on this level connects to a staircase that leads to a spacious rooftop terrace with sweeping views of Washington, D.C.

The fully finished basement includes a living area with a kitchenette, a guest bedroom, a full bathroom, and a laundry closet—ideal for hosting visitors or creating a private retreat.

This thoughtful renovation not only expanded the home’s footprint but elevated its functionality and design, turning it into a modern urban home nested in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Washington, DC.
